Festival Food Series: Turmeric Ginger Tonic. Healthy Hydration and Aids Digestion!

I want to start a series of posts about our favorite festival recipes.

Food that’s easy to prepare, healthy and energizing and also recipes that “just seem to work", like Spam Sliders (recipe to come!). Food that’s easy easy to grab and go or can be cooked in a single skillet. Festival life is some work, so let’s make the fooding (and staying alive) part a little easier.

To begin:

Turmeric Ginger Tonic

This guy has all but saved us. It’s so refreshing without a ton of sugar. It zings your noggin’ and body awake with goodies to soothe your tummy and aids your digestion while also lowering inflammation, sounds alright ;)

Okay, super easy you’ll need…

  • 5 lemons

  • At least 2 inches of turmeric (at least 3/4 inch in diameter)

  • At least 2 inches of ginger (an inch thick at it’s thickets)

  • At least a teaspoon of ground pepper (helps with turmeric absorbtion)

  • Cayenne to taste

  • Apple juice

  • A couple of quart mason jars

Gear to make life easier:

  • Lemon Squeezer

  • Grater

  • Non-metal mason jar lids

  • Blender


  1. Wash turmeric and ginger, the skin is pretty thin so you don’t have to peel them, but I do like to peel the ginger a bit. I just use a paring knife and get the tough spots off.

  2. Grate and put aside.

  3. Squeeze juice of 2.5 lemons into each mason jar

  4. Put all ginger and turmeric into a blender with pepper and cayenne and fill with AJ. Blend.

  5. Divide between jars.

  6. Fill about 2/3 with AJ.

  7. Fill the rest with water tasting as you go to get it where you want it.

  8. Drink and be restored!

Easy! Drink and enjoy. Stay hydrated and ready to dance your booties off.
